Red Light Therapy

Exposing skin to specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light (typically 660nm and 850nm) to support skin healing and recovery.

Red light therapy — technically photobiomodulation (PBM) — exposes skin and underlying tissue to specific wavelengths of light, most commonly 660 nm (red) and 850 nm (near-infrared). These wavelengths penetrate tissue and are absorbed by mitochondrial enzymes, where they appear to influence cellular energy production and inflammation.

The strongest evidence for PBM is in skin healing, anti-aging, inflammatory skin conditions, and wound healing. There's growing evidence for adjunctive recovery (post-exercise inflammation, soreness). The bigger marketing claims (thyroid, fat loss, hair growth on a clinical scale) have weaker evidence.

Home red light panels work — when used consistently, at the right wavelengths, at the right distance and duration. See our buying guide for how to choose one.
