EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation)

Electrical stimulation that causes muscles to contract — used for muscle activation, recovery, and rehab.

EMS stands for Electrical Muscle Stimulation. Where TENS targets nerve fibers for pain relief, EMS delivers stronger pulses that cause direct muscle contraction.

EMS has well-validated uses in physical therapy and rehab — particularly for muscle re-education after injury or surgery. It's also used by athletes for recovery and warm-up. The "build muscle without exercise" consumer claims are weaker — EMS by itself is not equivalent to resistance training.

Many consumer devices are combined TENS/EMS units that can do both depending on the program selected.
